The following content is based on my clinical experience and 3D analysis. Many patients visit me for revision surgery after undergoing Zygoma Reduction by Common Method(Complete Resection & Dual Fixation) at other clinics, expressing deep dissatisfaction.
Despite having the bone removed, these patients often feel their face has lost its dimension and appears “spread out” (flat and wide) rather than slim and contoured. Here is why this happens:
For convenience, I will refer to my malar reduction technique as ‘Method A’ and the conventional zygoma reduction surgery as ‘Method B”
‘Infracture Technique” is Method A, “Complete Ostectomy” & 2 Point Fix” is Method B
Method B involves the complete resection (removal) of a portion of the anterior zygoma.
Patients desire a reduction in the actual width of the face. However, if Method B focuses only on flattening the front:
When the front is narrowed but the back remains wide, the face takes on a “Pyramid Shape”—where the facial contour gradually widens from front to back. This is particularly noticeable when looking at the face from a downward angle or in 3/4 profiles, destroying the balance of a smooth, oval face.
“Successful zygoma reduction is not about how much bone you ‘cut away’; it is about repositioning the bone to create a slimmer, more three-dimensional frame.
If you have lost your facial dimension and feel your face looks wider after Method B, the solution lies in restoring the arch’s natural curve and correctly relocating the bone’s position (as seen in Method A: Infracture Technique) to regain a slim, vibrant, and youthful contour.”
